With Valentine's Day fast approaching, the romantic Italian city of Venice could be the ideal destination for lovebirds this year.
Not only is Venice constantly touted as one of the most romantic cities in the world, this year Valentine's Day coincides with the Venice Carnival.
The carnival is the largest on the Italian calendar, beginning on February 9th and ending on February 20th.
Embracing Italy's aristocratic roots it is elegant, romantic and dazzling. There are dozens of costume parties, masked balls and gala dinners to attend throughout the two week period.
Add to that the thousands of street performers, music and food stalls, all amidst one of the worlds' most stunning back drops and you have the makings of one of the finest street festivals on the planet.
The bustle and fun of the carnival, combined with the endlessly romantic atmosphere afforded to the city by its labyrinth of streets, lazily gliding gondolas and pastel buildings steeped in history, make the City of Water an ideal getaway for Valentine's Day.
