2008 News Archive - Holidays - World Festival on the Beach offers fun in the sun

09 05 2007

From May 10th to the 20th, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, Palermo, hosts the World Festival on the Beach.

As the name suggests, this event is in essence one big beach party, attracting revellers from all over the globe.

The festival features wind surfing, sailing, skydiving, paragliding, jazz, dancers and most of the other fun activities you could think of.

Set on Palermo's Mondello Beach, the festival was originally organised as a massive windsurfing competition, but has grown substantially since then.

However, visitors should not forget that the city of Palermo has its own dizzying array of sites and experiences.

The Palazzo dei Normanni is considered one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in existence.

And the Teatro Massimo, literally the "greatest theatre", more than lives up to its boastful name.

While Palermo is a popular spot for tourists, it still retains its genuine charms and is well worth a visit.
