2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'World's biggest mall' opens in Dubai

06 11 2008

The world's largest shopping mall has opened its doors in Dubai, a popular destination for UK tourists looking to soak up some winter sun.

With plans to open over 1,200 retail outlets and 160 places to eat and drink, the Dubai Mall could transform shopping in the popular Emirate.

Dubai will probably not suffer for lack of entertainment either as an aquarium, a 22-screen Cineplex and an indoor theme park have all been included in the new complex.

As a contrast to the year-round sun and sand offered by most of Dubai, the mall features an Olympic size ice rink.

If Mum and Dad wanted some time to themselves to enjoy the sun and sand, the Dubai Mall also boasts KidZania, a unique childrens' 'edu-tainment' complex.

Mr Yousif Al Ali, general manager of the Dubai Mall, said: "The Dubai Mall is a one of a kind experience [which] marks the future of retail […] by reinventing the shopping experience for the whole family"

Dubai, Mr Yousif claimed, has already established itself as one of the world's leading tourist destinations.

The new Mall also seems to be helping Dubai fulfill its role as a world leader in business and enterprise, as the BBC reported that Emaar, the property developer which owns the Dubai Mall, recently posted "enormous profits".
