2008 News Archive - Hotels & Villas - Carnival 'brightens up winter in Cyprus'

16 12 2008

Tourists looking to avoid the post-New Year's blues may want to consider a holiday to Cyprus this February, where the Limassol Carnival will be getting into full swing.

Carnival celebrations in the town of Limassol date back hundreds of years, tracing their roots back to the festivals in honour of Dionysius, the god of wine, which the ancient Greeks enjoyed.

According to one local hotel, the Londa, the town comes alive with parties, parades and music for ten days starting from February 19th.

The hotel said: "Carnival is a great chance to enjoy the island at its best, surrounded by early spring flowers and high-spirited festivities."

While the UK could have a cold, wet February to look forward to, tourists jetting off for a dose of springtime sunshine in Cyprus can expect temperatures of up to 26 degrees C.
