2008 News Archive - Hotels & Villas - Deals to be had in the Dominican Republic

01 12 2008

There are an increasing number of bargain, low-cost holiday deals to be found in the Dominican Republic thanks to the global economic downturn.

According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, a leading Canadian newspaper, the credit crunch has seen a fall in the numbers of visitors to the country from the US and Canada, meaning that Dominican Republic hotels are slashing their prices and UK tourists could find rooms at rock-bottom rates.

The newspaper reported that prices on some holidays to the Caribbean island had fallen by as much as 50 per cent, as hotels struggle to fill their capacity.

Writing in the Globe and Mail Patrick Dineen said: "What's bad news for the travel industry can mean bargains for travellers."

Earlier this month the Dominican Republic was recognised as the world's leading holiday destination for golfers, scooping up the coveted award of golfing destination of the year at the International Golf Travel Market in Spain.
