More DealsBarcelona: Introduction
Barcelona is one of Spain’s most cosmopolitan and varied cities – a capital of culture and cuisine. The home of Catalonian pride, as well as one of the most famous football teams on the planet, Barcelona buzzes with a vibrancy and passion that is reflected in its architecture and very way of life.
Holidays to Barcelona often suffer from visitors trying to cram too much in. And that’s understandable. Having been the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, the city is full of world-class architectural and heritage sites, as well as countless other things to see and do. But the best way to see Barcelona is just to book tickets to the city and explore at your own pace. Don’t be a slave to the guide book – simply wander down Las Ramblas and wonder at what you find. Here, mixed in with all the restaurants, are some of Spain’s premier shops – from high-end fashion designers like Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, to high street stalwarts Desigual and Zara.
A great way to see the city is via the Telefèric de Montjuïc funicular, which runs from the harbour all the way to the top of Montjuïc mountain. The mountain is one giant park, and from the summit you can explore the old defensive fort high above the city, as well as the stadium from the 1992 Olympics, located further down the hill.
Barcelona is blessed with all the modern amenities of a major city as well as a coastal location. This means that you’ll be able to enjoy both a city break and a beach holiday, where you can mix the cultural sites with an afternoon of sunshine and relaxation on the sand.
Monarch offers cheap flights to Barcelona from Manchester, Birmingham and London Gatwick. There are plenty of 2013 flight to Barcelona still available, so book today! Why not try flights to Spain including flights to Malaga, flights to Almeria and flights to Alicante.

We loved the hustle and bustle of the Rambalas and if you take your eyes away from the market style stalls and view the buildings on each side the design and architecture is superb. It is so easy to miss it as your eyes move across the stalls at ground level so you really do need to look upwards to view the buildings which carry so much history. We are looking forward to taking a 3 or 4 day break there as we only had one day as it was a port of call on our cruise.
