Every water sport is available with participants able to choose between the tranquility of the Mar Menor or just yards away the surf of the Mediterranean. Broad cycle paths wind around much of the shoreline weaving through the rich farming land where the only obstruction is an occassional herd of goats.
Principally a resort for Spanish holiday makers there are many restaurants ranging from the luxurious to small tapas bars sometimes tucked away and needing to be discovered others clustered around palm lined squares or overlooking the moorings of Marinas like Tomas Maestre towards the end of The Sleeve where a spectacular new lifting bridge tempts every one to get out their camera. Across the bridge and a few hundred metres on the right at the bottom of the Oasis building is a typical small Spanish restaurant that offers simple Spanish home cooking of incredible quality whose family staff display enormous patience and humour at customers stumbling efforts to manage the language.
The glamourous port and city of Cartagena is just thirty minutes away where several cruise liners can usually be seen bringing their passengers to visit the city and its festivals. The regions markets are fabulous with some featuring bread baked in the open and cooked meats prepared while you wait. Other stalls feature food ranging from the finest fresh vegetables to exotic fruits plus of course bargain clothing. Closer still are national parks where Lynx roam along wild shores and rugged landscape.
The La Manga Club with top class hotels and every sport facility is close by its fine golf course just one of many in the region. Several well equipped marinas are tucked in to corners of the Mar Menor and just across from The Sleeve a short drive away are several villages such as Alcazares boasting gorgeous beaches and immaculate promenades.
Several airports are within easy travelling distance the regional airport being just forty minutes away. With only one road in and out of the The Sleeve and with adequate but discreet police presence crime is virtually unknown and long after midnight people still stroll between the places of entertainment on their own or in family groups without a care.
