Turkey: Introduction

Often hailed as the place where East meets West, Turkey is a fascinating country packed full of stunning sights, intriguing sounds and scintillating smells. With glorious, sandy beaches along the Mediterranean and Aegean Costs, an incredible plethora of historical sites, delicious, hearty cuisine and an often lively atmosphere, the country has a wide range of attractions to keep everyone happy. Monarch offer a variety of flights to Turkey, including flights to Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum.

Why fly to Turkey?

Turkey’s incredible variety is what makes it such a great place to take a holiday. By booking a flight to Turkey, you have access to the everything you could want in terms of weather, culture, scenery and history - it’s all there. Whether you are after a lazy beach holiday in Oludeniz or a fascinating city break in Istanbul, the choice is there for you. Visiting Turkey’s northern regions is completely different to its Mediterranean coast in terms of heritage, climate and lifestyle. You could visit the various parts of the country year after year and still find something new and exciting every time. Black Sea Turkey is home to mountainous terrain, where the forests are great for active holidays. Mediterranean Turkey boasts a warm climate year round and the fragmented coastline is lapped by beautiful waters. Aegean Turkey is a mix of history and beaches with ancient ruins and glorious white sands reflecting the diversity of the region. And that's not even half the country! There really is so much to choose from here.

Our Top Tip For Turkey

"Visit a Turkish Bath, known as a Hamam, as sson as you arrive. This traditional beauty treatment is made up of scrubs, massages and oils that will enhance your tan – very worthwhile for the small cost of around £20!"

Turkey highlights

Relax in Antalya

A city of real scenic beauty, Antalya is a wonderful hub of activity blessed with sensational surroundings and long, sandy beaches. The Kaleiçi old quarter is a must. A charming throwback to older times, this network of winding streets seems eras away from the nearby city buzz. The two main beaches, Konyaalti and Lara, are packed with tourists attractions so there’s plenty to get up to on either. However, the sands themselves are so stunning you might just want to bask on them all day long.

Party on down in Bodrum

Bodrum is one of Turkey’s premier Aegean resorts, and is one of the main hubs for tourism on the peninsula. The up-market marina lies in the west, and in the east you will find the heart of Bodrum’s legendary nightlife. Here there is a small beach, behind which all the bars and clubs are situated. If you’re looking for a lively evening, this is the place for you.

Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon

Oludeniz is a small beach resort, surrounded by dramatic, craggy mountains and its Blue Lagoon is probably one of Turkey’s most beautiful and natural attractions. The Lagoon itself is a remarkable sight, with the waters being of the most vivid of blues. The beach surrounding it and leading back out onto the bay is a combination of sand and shingle and the village behind it is full of lovely restaurants and shops. Here, you can also partake in many adventure sports, with the pick of the lot being paragliding from Babadag Mountain. All day you will see brave tourists making the jump and then slowly swirling back down to the beach front. As you might expect, the views at 1,960 metres are truly breathtaking.
